Emmaus Mac is Recruiting – Foundation Director 20/3/23

Being a Foundation Director in a Catholic MAC is very rewarding and a great way to serve your community. It is also an opportunity to learn new skills which can have a positive impact on your own self-development.

“I truly believe that no school can perform well over a sustained period of time without effective governance”. Lord Theodore Agnew, as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for schools

The research report, Professional Development through Governance, June 2019, finds that there is a high degree of transferability of skills between employee-governors’ governance and professional roles. Click here for the report in full
Criteria to become a Foundation Director:

• a practising Catholic
• able to obtain a reference from the Priest in the Parish where you regularly worship
• you may not serve as a Foundation Director in Emmaus Catholic MAC where you are related to a staff member or Governor.

We welcome people of all ages and cultural backgrounds with a genuine desire to create a positive environment that allows young people to reach their true potential.
We are particularly looking for people who are able to take a strategic view and contribute to boardroom discussions. You do not need to have specific experience within education. The experience that you have may be from the business, community, social or charity sectors but these transferrable skills will benefit the Board and strengthen the way that it works in order to benefit the children attending our schools. Commitment, a willingness to learn and develop in the role and the ability to contribute to discussions and professionally and appropriately question and challenge are key skills for effective governance.

Governance and Director roles are voluntary positions and do require a certain level of commitment to prepare for and attend meetings and to undertake appropriate training. However, the roles can be interesting and rewarding as you are directly responsible for improving the experiences of children in education.
We will support you with:
• the opportunity for taster sessions (up to 3 meetings as a visiting observer)
• comprehensive training and induction supported by Emmaus Catholic MAC and the Archdiocese of Birmingham

To find out more, express an interest and book a taster session, contact:

MAC Prayer
God, Our Father, on the road to Emmaus, Jesus Your Son nurtured the disciples with the Word of Scripture and nourished their faith with the Breaking of Bread. On our journey of life, renew our communities, restore our hope, and inspire our enthusiasm for learning. Increase our commitment to education, with compassion in our hearts and dedication to the Gospel. As disciples and friends of Jesus, empower us with the courage to lead and the humility to serve Your people. Amen.
