Christians Against Poverty (CAP) – Prayer & Volunteers Needed!

From Maria Cook – CAP Debt Coach, Oldbury

First, let me thank you for your faithful support of Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Sandwell Debt Centre. Your prayers, encouragement, and generosity have made it possible for us to bring hope and freedom to those in our community struggling with the weight of debt and poverty.

As you know, the needs in Sandwell, Bham South and Dudley areas are great. Every week, we meet individuals and families who are desperate for a listening ear, practical help, and the good news of Jesus. We could not walk alongside them without the partnership of local churches like yours.

At this stage, we would love to invite you to support CAP Sandwell in some specific ways:

1. Prayer Support – Regularly praying for our clients, our team, and the ongoing ministry. This we do, once a month via zoom.

2. Volunteer Involvement – Encouraging members of your church to consider serving as befriender. As a befriender you would be given training. We would also invite anyone interested and wanting to know more about the role to an gathering to chat further about the role, responsibilities , training and commitment.

A befriender is :-

· Someone who visits Cap clients alongside the debt coaches. They provide support during the visit, engaging the client in conversation helping to make the client feel more relaxed.

· Prayer warrior for that client.

· In some cases providing ongoing contact, where it’s deemed appropriate by both befriender and client, via phone messages.

· Befrienders can volunteer for one or as many clients as they want.

3. Financial Support – Continuing (or increasing) your financial partnership so that the debt centre can remain open and available to the community.

4. Raising Awareness – Sharing CAP’s work with your congregation to encourage others to get involved and to let those in need know that help is available.

We deeply value your partnership in this ministry. Together, we can show the love of Christ in practical ways and see lives transformed in Sandwell and surrounding areas.

Please do get in touch with me if you would like to explore any of these opportunities further. I would also be very happy to come and share at a Sunday service or small group about how God is using CAP to bring hope.

Thank you again for standing with us in this mission.
